The magnificent Ignimbrite rocks that carve the valley are where the accommodation gets its name. The Hinuera River, New Zealand’s longest, ran through the Hinuera Valley before entering the Hauraki Gulf. The eruptions of Taupo about 300,000 years ago changed the river’s path, resulting in the valley we see today.
