You heard right, they so totally didn’t get married on this day. What this day was is just 2 people that vowed to do right by each other, an epic feast and a hell of a party! Oh right and also managed to get some pretty sick photos :P
When the second set of lockdowns hit, these 2 knew nothing was going to stop them from committing to each other, and so during all the craziness, they decided to just elope in their backyard with their closest family members. But still feeling like there’s just a bit of something missing, these two epic humans decided to throw one epic party to kick the marriage off.
Now this walk down the aisle was definitely a first for me. Hao and the groomsmen Daniel and Eric decided to put on a little bit of a show for everyone and danced the whole way down, watch this space... lots of GIF incoming lol Once gathered, the boys decided the best way to start the ceremony off of course was a quick shot, and that's exactly what they did.
The girls didn’t do too bad themselves, no dancing on their part but they all looked absolutely stunning! Especially Saila! Walking down the aisle with her parents on both her arms while showers of petals welcomed her.
Bridal party photo time!!! Thanks to Fleur, the fairer 1/2 of Hedges Estate :P , we got to spend a little time with Boots! And I have to say, she was one the most beautiful AND well behaved horses we've ever photographed! There were a few moments where Boots decided to give a ago at nibbling the boquete as well as once or twice at Hao's buttonhole but you can't really blame her... they did look pretty good. Man it's good being an Auckland wedding photographer!
Once the bridal party (and Boots) made their way back to the party, we managed to get a couple of epic shots of just Saila & Hao as they danced, tickled and hugged the day away.
Soon it was time for food! But not before a bit of fun at the bride and groom's expense :P we soon launched into the shoe game. With a few non-English speakers mixed into thr crowd, each question had to be translated and I swear I will never forget the look on Catherine's (sister & maid of honor) was told to translate "who is kinkier in the bedroom" to her parents HAHAHAHAHAHA
Dinner of course was AWESEOM! Cook & Butler as always brought their game! and with Nick at the helm, the team made sure everyone was fed, happy and just the right amount of tipsy!
We of course had to take advantage of the paddocks at Hedges Estate for some epic sunset shoots. Grant, the other 1/2 of Hedges Estate, even offered to take us around the property with his MG which made for one of the best props an Auckland Wedding Photographer could ask for!
Second surprise was the paddock we ended up in also had a horse, and just like Boots, was super friendly and decided to photobomb the shoot which we 120% welcomed!
Extra surprise! Today was actually also the birthday of Collen, one of the bridesmaid! An extra cake was prepared and everyone joined in some happy birthday singing. Sharing their big day with a friend in this way definitely speaks volumes about Saila and Hao and I’m sure Collen felt the same as she balled her eyes out <3 A few speeches later we were ready for that epic first dance they put on and have to say, not a lot of people can choreograph such an awesome first dance for themselves!
We couldn’t end the day before getting some use out of those cigars too!
We couldn’t end the day before getting an epic night photo either, with enough vapers we managed to create something truly epic! And of course, we had to make some use out of those cigars too!
