Sophie & Kush | Old Forest School | Auckland Wedding Photographer
A Tale of a Bride, a Groom and a Pup
There is something about nature that makes us feel good; dont know if it is the fresh air, the sound of the wind blowing through the leaves, or the magic of the moment and we get to just soak it in. Being an Auckland Wedding Photographer, I love getting to visit unique locations and capture beautiful celebrations of love; this right here holds a special place in my heart.
As I said, I am not sure if the presence of a beautiful creature like Archie the pup, who by the way stole the camera the entire day with his cuteness overload and puppy eyes, or being under the trees made this wedding so effortlessly beautiful, relaxed, and super fun. But the fact is, and I have proof, Sophie and Kush had the time of their lives, and I got the chance to capture it all!
The wedding venue was as unique as this lovely couple, Old Forrest School was built around the 1930s as a school, but by the 1980s, it had to shut down. The building was forgotten until 2007 when a family rescued and restored the space now purposed as a venue and home to many animals, like pigs, miniature donkeys, cats, and dogs.

Getting married at this old rural school is simply awesome; for example, you can say I do inside a classroom or outdoors with nature surrounding you. You can go and hang out by the swings or have a tennis match. It is an absolute hidden gem, with a large potential for rustic, bohemian, and nature inspired weddings.
I had been warned about having a camera-shy groom but when it was time for some photos Sophie and Kush were having so much fun I sometimes wonder if they even remember we were there :P ledding to some awesome, funny and definitely memorable moments.
The wedding had been postponed (yay covid! <- sarcastically), but the wait made it all the more sweeter. Plus some meaningful details such as a bridal bouquet made from the flowers of the original date dried and preserved. And speaking of bouquets, one of my favorite moments was when Sophie decided to do a surprises bouquet toss... straight into her cousin's face at full force. Safe to say he was surprised... see the moment below!
Sunset was the perfect opportunity to make the most out of the natural beauty of Old Forrest School, and I managed to capture the love of this couple through my lens. They swung, kissed, jumped and danced and ran around like kids in a schoolyard. Puppy love :P
Their reception was memorable, they danced, they cried happy tears, and they enjoyed their wedding. No one was sitting by the end of the night, and with their families and friends, the stars above, and the trees around, this couple started a new journey in life.
