When Monique and Charles invited me to photograph their wedding, I knew I was in for something special. But nothing could have prepared me for the sheer magic of their day at the picturesque Hobbiton in Matamata. With its rolling green hills, charming hobbit holes, it felt like stepping straight into Middle-earth.

Monique, being a fantasy portrait photographer herself, has an incredible eye for beauty and storytelling. As an Auckland Wedding photographer, it was a huge honour to be chosen to help document her wedding day, and she made the most enchanting bride. Dressed in a gown that seemed to shimmer with magic, Monique looked like an elven queen straight out of a Tolkien novel. Charles, equally dashing in his suit, was the perfect counterpart. Together, they were the epitome of a fairy tale couple—elegant, radiant, and in love.

The ceremony was as beautiful as the couple, taking place surrounded by Hobbiton’s lush greenery. There were joy and tears as Monique and Charles exchanged their vows. But the surprises didn’t end there. As soon as the ceremony concluded, circus performers arrived to entertain the guests - A stilt walker dressed as Gandalf and a fire juggler’s performance lit up the atmosphere with awe and excitement - what a treat to be a part of all these as a lucky Hobbiton wedding photographer!!

Afterward, Monique and Charles went on a photoshoot tour, exploring Hobbiton’s enchanting nooks and crannies. Their chemistry was undeniable, the magic truly unfolded and they looked like they had stepped straight out of a fantasy world.

When they rejoined their guests, they were greeted by an emotional haka performed by Charles’ family. The raw power and heartfelt emotion of the haka brought a beautiful tribute to the celebrations.

Dinner was held at the Green Dragon Inn, and Hobbiton delivered a feast worthy of the Shire. The tables were laden in a banquet style with an abundance of food, illuminated by the soft candlelight and the warmth of the fireplace. They even recreated Bilbo's iconic 111th birthday cake as their wedding cake, a delightful touch that perfectly tied into the setting and theme of the day. It was a truly immersive experience—you half expected Bilbo Baggins himself to pop in for a pint.

The night ended in true hobbit style: an epic party filled with dancing and live music. Looking back, Monique and Charles’ wedding was not just a celebration of their love but a testament to how a wedding can be a true reflection of a couple’s personalities and passions. It was whimsical, heartfelt, and utterly magical—a day straight out of a fairy tale. Thank you, Monique and Charles, for allowing me to be a part of your story.
